Who do you do it for?

at

As I rode the jeep this morning, I noticed that a kid’s shoe is glued in front of the driver.

I didn’t know the driver’s story, but it reminded me of my own: I have a family that I should work hard for.

Be it our parents, kids, other family members, or ourselves, it is a good practice to keep a small token as a reminder for our purpose. Especially for days that are extra hard, take a pause, look at your token, and thank them for the reminder to keep moving forward.\

“Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.”

– John F. Kennedy

For me, I have my family’s picture wherever I go. This helps me remember why I work hard. It reminds me of what I’ve been through. And also, what I can still do.

Thank you, family, for the inspiration that you bring. I am doing this for the both of you.

Do you keep a token with you? Who does it remind you of? Who do you do it for?

Enjoy life. Cheers!

~Nina

    Hi, Nina!

This post is similar to a piece of note I kept in my mini-board which I can easily see the moment I wake up. It says “Good morning! So para kanino ka bumabangon?”… The answer is pretty simple really, it’s always because of our family, our loved ones, our dreams or anyone which inspires us. I agree that sometimes we need a reminder how life is actually amazing. Cheers! 🙂

Hi Jen, that’s nice! Adds a cheerful note to it too. Maybe I should also do that. 🙂

I don’t know if it should be considered as a token but I have a rosary that my mom gave me when I started my first job. I always carry it with me and every morning before I go about my day I take it out and say a prayer. It keeps me motivated throughout the day and it also reminds me of my loved ones and how much they care for me. It motivates me to work harder and do my best so I can make them proud. Thank you so much for this inspiring post. More power to you!

Wow, that is a good token. Maybe something similar for me is the watch my mom gave me in high school. The style is old, but I still use it every now and then.

What a great idea! I don’t have something like that now, My kids are grown and taking care of themselves. My husband and I have a symbol and used to wear matching bracelets with it . Now I’m thinking we should again, thanks for the inspiration.~

Aww, that’s sweet! Back when we were not married, hubby and I are fond of matchy things. Now, it’s just too mushy…but maybe we should try that out again 🙂

I actually carry around my phone my favorite pictures of my family and friends. I look at these pictures whenever I feel down or when I am thinking of what to do next. It sort of reminds me not to give up. Glad to know there are other sentimental people like me 🙂

I’m pretty closet-sentimental too. I have a stash of things my hubby gave me when we weren’t married yet. It’s good to look back at memories, once in a while 🙂

Aww…no, the only keepsakes I keep are photos. I love photos. I need to start making scrapbooks of them, though. I guess it’s because I’m a minimalist by nature, so I tend to throw out anything I’m not using actively for months.

Maybe I should learn that. The hubby sometimes complains of the clutter. Photos are great things to keep though. I’d also love to create albums, but I have no time to sort them out :))

I think we all do because even if we love our families and they are always in our heart, it is still nice to have a photo of our family with us. I have mine in my wallet.

That’s true, Kareen 🙂 Though for the visual me, I like seeing things. Also a great reminder to not go on OT so I can still play with the son. Haha!

I liked how you use tokens to keep you focused on the people that matters to you. In our environment, we tend to lose focus bec of peer and social media pressure– trying to outdo either our office mates or online buddies w/ the latest gadget or bags, or the latest travel.

May the forces above bless the work of your hand 🙂

Thank you Sonnie! I try to focus on what matters most. Though I also get to be distracted sometimes, it’s good to have a reminder of what matters most 🙂

Once you have your own children, you do not need a token or anything to be reminded. It is nature. But still for some people it does help. I actually recommend a vision board because done properly you see it everyday.

Keeping a photo, usually it remains hidden in the wallet or bag. 🙂

Hi Robert, that’s a nice idea! I should probably start a vision board. I’ve always planned on having one but until now, nothing happened.

I don’t keep an actual token with me but I think ts sweet that you do. I do think of my kids all day every day and things that I can do to make their lives better. They are who I do everything for. The only my people that matter.

Hi Michelle! I’m actually a visual person so it works for me. Good to hear that you also thing of them too even without a token 🙂

My token is my tattoo: It says, in my life I decide. Whatever life brings me, it’s my decision to see how I deal with it. In that way you can always have control about your own behaviors. Anyways, I have a neckless too with an eye to protect me from jealousy.

    15 . Apr . 2016
    • Nina Sogue

Wow Sabine, that’s really cool! Is there a reason why it’s an eye? This is a first-time that I’ve heard of an eye pendant as a protection from jealousy. I think I need that :))

I don’t have this kind of token yet but I guess I need to look for something to keep me going now. 🙂 These things inspires us whenever we’re losing hope or when we feel like getting tired of living. Thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome! Do share once you have your token 🙂

My token is my eyebrow piercing. I have made it after going from Europe to South East Asia exclusively by land, and it reminds me of the fact that if I want to, I can do anything. Because I managed to do such a journey.

This is such a beautiful post! At my desk at work I have two images, one with my partner and I, the other of our ‘dream house’! On my arm, I have a tattoo that reminds me to be strong and that I can achieve anyting! 🙂

Keep up the incredible work! 🙂

Thank you! Maybe I should put a picture of my dreamhouse too. Or…a vision board. 🙂 What is your tatto? 😀

That’s true Ayi! I also keep lots of their photos in my phone. Sometimes when I’m sad, I just look through my gallery 🙂

Same here. Have a token tucked inside my wallet for years. Its a simple small card from my husband. Written there: you are important to me. I consider that as my token because it reminds me of a man who values me so much that he works hard for our family. Seeing the token uplifts my soul and pushes me to value not only those who consider me important but most especially those who give me the reason to wake up everyday and hope for the happiest day ever – my boys.

Such a beautiful story. Yes I do have a token. Its my tattoo. It reminds me that I am never alone. And when I need motivation it reminds me that I have to do it for them. Beautifully narrated. 🙂
