Thrifty is nifty

at
thrifty-is-nifty-outfit

I have never thought of myself as a fashionista. I would casually browse articles and search for outfit ideas, but I would never spend (that much) on something whose beauty comes with an expiration date. Basically, it’s just that I know when something looks good or not.

“Fashion changes, style endures.” – Coco Chanel

The thing is, Instagram is such a temptation. I browse a lot of selling accounts lately that everyday, I’ve got something that I want to buy. I’m running out of closet space so I decided to sort out my clothes. Lo and behold, I found a lot of things that are out of the rotation for awhile. And by that, I mean weeks…or even months? Years?

Today’s getup was a white off shoulder top, jeans, and sandals. If I told you where I got these, would you even believe?

I got the top from a booth at Glorietta in the middle of last year (Php 150). The jeans was from a night market back in 2009 (Php 200). And the shoes was from SM Department Store back in 2012. I couldn’t remember the price but I solely bought it for commute. And, it was on sale.

To add some spice to my outfit, I also had my green denim jacket. I’m pretty sure I got this from People are People back in college (8 years ago?!), and was also on sale.

This jacket is a favorite because it always adds an oomph in every outfit. It is very comfy to wear and also fits well. I am mostly a fan of androgynous, bordering manly, pieces. It tends to highlight the chic in you.

Fashion doesn’t have to be expensive.

I guess I cannot deny, most of my stuff are bought on sale or are really cheap. I only buy expensive things when I see something that I really, really like. I am very kuripot on myself as a person, and now that I have a family to look after, I need to be wiser in my spending. But that doesn’t mean I can’t dress up nicely, right?

An item’s monetary value does not dictate it’s beauty. Its real beauty will come from how we look at it.

And that’s me! Did you like this combination? Do you have a thrifty find of your own? Let me know in the comments. 😉

Enjoy life. Cheers!

Totally agree. Fashion need not be expensive. Love the off-shoulder and the jacket. And super love that they are either on sale or aren’t expensive.

Being stylish does not necessarily equate to expensive fashion items. There are actually many thrifty finds out there just like what you found.

I totally agree! I even found some things in my mom’s closet that are “cool” again. If only I can convince her to give it to me instead 😛

10-15 years ago, I would have told you not to add on the jacket, heehee, but I’m beginning to appreciate jackets.

I love People are People. I love when they’re on sale. I got several pieces from them before, including a pair of funky rubber shoes I used for work (I was in a band) for years.

You were in a band? Cool! It’s not really my favorite brand, but they do have really unique finds.

I’m a big fan of jackets because I’m very conscious with my arms. It’s either that, or I’ll wear long sleeves. It feels like a security blanket, actually. Lol. I have to work on confidence (and exercise), but it’s a work in progress 🙂

I agree with you that to be fashionable or decently-dressed, you don’t need to wear designer brands. It entails that you know what looks good on you. Also, you need to have the confidence to carry your outfit.

Hello Teresa, yes confidence really is a deal-breaker. If only I knew about that when I was younger. Lol.

Thank you! And I totally agree! As long as it looks nice and it fits well, I’m not conscious about the brand 🙂

I agree with affordable good brands like H&M, F21, etc… fashion doesn’t have to be expensive.
